Many a joke has been made about scurvy and pirates, but it’s a serious disease caused by a lack of Vitamin C that still affects people around the world today. What’s wild, though, is that it shouldn’t exist – our distant ancestors used to be able to make their own Vitamin C. What happened?

Scurvy isn't a desease and if there are cases in a developed country, it shouldn't be treated as a medical problem but as one of malnutrition. Treating someone suffering from scurvy obviously is a 'medical' issue, but treating the fact if someone gets it in the first place requirers radical different measures, namely education and creating the possibility for people to get the nutrients the need through their daily diets.

Considering all the problems I've been having with my back, coupled with my lack of fruit in my diet, maybe I need to add some vitamin C to what I'm already taking in the way of vitamins.
