Hands-on review of the Samsung RU8000 HDR TV.
The Samsung RU8000 is a very good 4k TV with good picture quality. In this review, we compare it to 4 other popular models.
Full review:
It delivers deep uniform blacks in a dark room, but lacks a local dimming feature to further improve dark room performance. The RU8000 has good SDR peak brightness and good reflection handling.
The TV has a wide color gamut, but HDR peak brightness is only mediocre, so it can’t display small highlights as they should be. The overall gray uniformity is good with just minimal dirty screen effect, but the viewing angles are poor and you have to sit straight in front to enjoy an accurate image.
Motion handling is excellent with a fast response time that helps display crisp motion with minimal blur trail. The input lag is very low, and the TV supports FreeSync variable refresh rate technology to please gamers.
Model tested: 55” (UN55RU8000)
Should also be valid for the 49” (UN49RU8000), 65” (UN65RU8000), 75” (UN75RU8000) and 82” (UN82RU8000)

Great job at reviewing. Website and video really helped me pick a tv to hunt for during this black Friday. Looking for a tv to pair with a htpc that is also used for gaming in uhd.
Thank you

I wish I can buy the NU8000. I'm disappointed that Samsung got rid of local dimming in the RU8000.

Im having my 65RU8002 in two days. 1000EUR seems like quite large sum for a TV but i believe its worth it.

Why does the previous model have 120 hz and this one has 100 hz? logic.

I love my nu8000. I've had it for a year and still get amazed by how deep the blacks are and how vibrant the colors are, especially to be and edge lit led. The brightness is really gonna make a difference here, I would recommend the nu over the ru anyday. Slightly lower input lag isn't worth it the ru.

Bought this tv recently and was wondering what the best gamma preset is. It comes standard at bt 1886 with the slider at 0. I know rting changed theirs to 2.2. When I do this it seems washed out to me however bt 1886 seems darkish? Not sure if that’s the best way to describe it. I also don’t want to pick an inaccurate setting just because my eyes are used to it one way or another. Anyone have any input on the best gamma preset?
